Lori Bennett, LCSW
Boulder Therapy for Women

With offices in Longmont and Boulder, Lori Bennett focuses primarily on working with adult women survivors of childhood emotional neglect. Emotional neglect in childhood can lead to a great deal of confusion in adult life. Aftereffects may include a drive to prove oneself through overachievement, excessive self-doubt and criticism, a sense of feeling “bad” or “invisible”, and a feeling of being disconnected from knowing one’s own needs.

We may spread ourselves too thin, and develop resentments toward our partners for not being able to reciprocate, or to ‘read’ us. Caregiving is not a choice; it is our sole identity. It may be the only way we feel valued. We distract ourselves by providing care to our loved ones, partners and friends, while ignoring our basic emotional needs; a painful and lonely replication of our histories of neglect.

Lori also has expertise in the area of bereavement and loss. Unresolved losses can come in many forms; the most obvious being the death of a loved one, or the ending of a relationship. But there are always losses inherent in any change in life’s circumstances. The way we grieve these losses plays a crucial role in how we live our lives, and how we determine our futures.
